Who is the “Providence Alliance for Student Safety”?
The Providence Alliance for Student Safety (P.A.S.S.) is made up of 7 Providence Organizations : Providence Student Union (PSU), Providence Youth Student Movement (PrYSM), Alliance of Rhode Island Southeast Asians for Education (ARISE), Youth In Action (YIA), Center for Justice (CFJ), Rhode Island Urban Debate League (RIUDL), and the Center for Youth and Community Leadership in Education (CYCLE).
The PASS coalition is working to better understand school safety and discipline (defined by rules and strategies used by schools to manage and punish student behavior in Providence Public Schools). Our coalition aims to be driven by the people most impacted by over-policing in our communities–youth. We aim to understand the experiences of Providence youth with School Resource Officers (police) and school-based mental health resources. We aim to understand the vision that young people have for safe and supportive schools.”
